Sea Changes

"But doth suffer a sea-change / Into something rich and strange" — Ariel, The Tempest

Looking back on it now, I remember the

sea-changes,

when the balance between
                              good and evil,
                              poor and rich,
                              weak and strong,
                              this and that
was disrupted, when the
                              proportions,
                              ratios,
                              entropy
changed, often unexpectedly, otherwise
                              resistance,
                              friction, or
                              opposing forces
might have prevented positive sea-changes, such as the
                              demise of South African apartheid,
                              fall of the Berlin Wall,
                              collapse of the Soviet Empire,
                              development of personal computers,
                              Google,
                              Facebook,
                              Twitter,
                              Arab Spring,

and other big and small, national, city, community, and personal sea-changes,

and then I wonder how the
                              egocentric, interpersonal dynamics of
                              need and passion
                              created these sea-changes,
and I suspect that
                              magicians and their
                              familiar spirits

are loose on earth.
